How does EMDR work online?
Virtual EMDR is just as effective as in-person treatment. Instead of physical light bars or finger movements, we utilize secure, HIPAA-compliant screen-sharing software for visual bilateral stimulation, or we use rhythmic audio tones via headphones. You get the same deep trauma processing from the safety and comfort of your own familiar environment.
What are your session fees, and do you accept insurance?
My standard fee is $100 for a 50 minute individual counseling session or parent consultation. However, I do offer a sliding scale to support clients with financial constraints. I operate as a private-pay provider. However, I can provide you with a monthly "Superbill" (a detailed medical receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. I highly recommend calling your insurance provider beforehand to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits.
What is neurodivergent-affirming care?
It means I do not view ADHD or autism as deficits that need to be "cured." Instead, I validate that your brain is simply wired differently. In our sessions, you don't have to mask. We work with your unique executive functioning styles, sensory needs, and strengths to build a life that accommodates your true self, rather than trying to force you into a neurotypical mold.
How do "expressive therapies" translate to a video screen?
Beautifully! Traditional talk therapy can sometimes trap logical overthinkers in their own heads or prevent those with difficulty finding the right words to fully express themselves. Through our virtual platform, we pivot to active, experiential tools. This looks like guided mindfulness meditations, collaborative digital art or writing platforms, utilizing music, or engaging in logical problem-solving games that reveal hidden beliefs and behavior patterns.
Can you provide virtual therapy if I live outside of Louisiana?
Because I am licensed as an LPC in Louisiana, state telehealth regulations require that you are physically located within the state of Louisiana at the exact time of our virtual sessions. If you travel out of state temporarily, we will pause sessions until you return. If you are moving out of state, I may be able to practice in your state through the new Counseling Compact depending on which state you are moving to.
